Artist Statement
My artistic journey based on a deep fascination with ceramic materials, their origins, and inherent properties. The pursuit of meticulous control over every phase of crafting has led me to delve into the fluidity of glass and glazes. The central idea of my exploration lies in capturing and immortalizing the fleeting moments of flow and transformation. It's about seizing the instants of motion, as if suspending time, enabling a more intricate observation of the unfolding process. Each piece stands as a time marker, a tangible testament to the existence of the elusive fourth dimension—moments not lost but crystallized.
Bio
Polina Potapova was born in Morshansk, Russia in 1984 in a closed military camp, to a family of an aircraft engineer and a chemist. Later after parents devours she returned to mother's native town Podolsk. In her childhood she was surrounded by creativity, as she lived in the place where her uncle, an artist and architect grew up. The walls of the apartment were painted with fantastic scenes, old secretary was full of art materials, while the home library was overflowing with books on physics and chemistry. During school years Polina attended an art studio and a folk art center, where she studied Russian folklore. Polina got the profession of an economist, worked for several years in the field of computer video games and traveled to many European countries.
In 2016, Polina learned to work in various ceramic techniques, she also studied academic drawing and painting. An important step was the study of materials science with Matthew Katz, a lecturer at Alfred University.
Subsequently, Polina's main focus became the study of experimental texture and volumetric glazes. Since 2018 Polina has been teaching. She gives lectures and workshops on the study of glazes for ceramic artists.
Polina is engaged in sculptural ceramics with a strong focus on glaze experiments.
In 2022 Polina moved to Georgia, where she lives with her husband and two children.

collaboration
Self-Portrait is a collaboration between visual artist Polina Potapova and sound artist Eva Reicher. It marks the end of 2022 year, which almost completely changed our lives. We met with Eva during emigration in Tbilisi and wanted to express our feelings through our art.
Special thanks for light and filming to Danila Gurov.
