Bio
Polina Potapova is a self-taught ceramic artist with over ten years of experience. Originally from Morshansk, Russia, she was born into a family of an aircraft engineer and a chemist, which gave her a background that naturally shaped her fascination with science. From an early age, she pursued fine art and folklore studies, later earning a diploma in economics and working in the video game industry while traveling across the world.

Her return to ceramics a decade ago became a point of convergence between precision and intuition, merging her love for scientific inquiry with artistic experimentation. A pivotal moment in her development was studying materials science with Matthew Katz (Alfred University, USA), which deepened her exploration of glaze chemistry and the alchemy of transformation.

Polina’s sculptural practice focuses on movement, material fluidity, and the expressive potential of glazes. She has lectured on glaze research in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Tbilisi. In 2022, she relocated first to Georgia and later to France. She is a member of Particles, a collective of artists in exile, with whom she participated in group exhibitions at the cultural center Auditoria and the Ortachala Art Residency in Tbilisi. Her solo exhibition “HOPE/NO HOPE” was presented at Flowers Minda art space in Tbilisi in 2024.

collaboration
Self-Portrait is a collaboration between visual artist Polina Potapova and sound artist Eva Reicher. It marks the end of 2022 year, which almost completely changed our lives. We met with Eva during emigration in Tbilisi and wanted to express our feelings through our art.
Special thanks for light and filming to Danila Gurov.
