BETWEEN WALLS
Year: 2023
Materials: stoneware, recycled glass

The triptych has been created from stoneware clay and recycled glass, using slab technique. It was inspired by natural forms of ice stalagmites and young sprouts, which can grow in tiny cracks in the asphalt. The clay was meticulously chosen to match the color and texture of the soil and stones. After the pieces were fired at a high temperature, they underwent a second firing with glass from crashed bottles.

This triptych is an homage to the poetry of William Carlos Williams:
the back wings
of the

hospital where
nothing

will grow lie
cinders

in which shine
the broken

pieces of a green
bottle

Even where life is seemingly impossible the shards of a bottle glow green as if a young sprout broke through the concrete. This "sprout" symbolizes the human capacity for hope, even when surrounded by only ashes.
